How to bathe your cat
Is your cat getting dirty very often? Does he have grease or other toxic substance stuck on his hair coat or a kind of an unpleasant odor that comes with not bathing often? If you have never given your cat a bath thinking that cats do not bathe, then you must consider giving them one very soon as occasional bathing of cats ensures that their skin and hair coat stays clean and lustrous.
It is rather difficult to give cats a bath due to its aggressive nature and given the fact that some cats do not prefer to get wet. So you need to soothe and calm your pet before giving them a pet. If your cat loves to be bathed then bath time becomes enjoyable if not it will turn into a raging blood bath as your cat would want to claw his away out of the bath!
Here are a few pointers to help you give your pet bath:
- The earlier you introduce your pet to bath the better it is for them to get used to it. You can give your cat its first bath at 3.5 to 4 months.
- You must use only cat shampoos and soaps preferably the kind recommended by your vet.
- It is always easier to manage giving your pet a bath with another person helping you. Also keep everything within reach like towels, shampoo, brush and the water ready before you bring in your pet for bath.
- Cats should bathe in a tub rather than the floor. You need to fill the tub with warm water. As cats get nervous by the sound of water you must bathe them slowly and talk to them soothingly and handle them gently.
- The bathtub should be filled with warm water and then you must place your cat gently into it. Do not dip your cat head first into the water. If your cat is amiable, place cotton balls in their ears to avoid water getting into them.
- You must now apply shampoo all over their body and rub it gently.Pressure should be avoided while rubbing to avoid hair loss and tangles. Lastly, rinse the shampoo gently with water and then wrap your cat in a clean towel.
- You can blow dry your cat’s hair provided that he allows you to do so otherwise allow it to dry naturally.
If your pet does not cooperate when you try to bathe him then you must take them to a pet salon and let a professional take over!
Happy bathing!
