Parasite prevention in adult cats
As concerned pet parents, it is your responsibility to ensure that your pet remains healthy and parasite free. Cats that are in the prime and mature stage are still keen on hunting, so parasite control becomes necessary.
There are two kinds of parasites that will make your pet ill; External parasites are found on the hair and skin of cats and Internal parasites inhabit in your cat’s organs like lungs or the intestinal tract.
Here are some important facts for you to consider to help you decide if parasite prevention is required for your pet:
- Cockroaches, mices and flies are carriers of roundworm eggs and cats naturally hunt on them.
- Other people at home who frequently go outside can bring in parasites that will affect your indoor cat.
- Children and people with weaker immune system are usually carriers of roundworms.
- In just a period of 1 month, 25 female fleas can multiply to more than 250,000.
- One adult worm in a cat’s heart can be quite lethal as death becomes imminent.
Prevention is always cheaper and better than cure, so to keep your pet parasite free you need to take him to the vet for regular examinations. Ensure he takes parasite medications prescribed by the vet as well as other flea and tick products. Your pet must be given clean water and freshly cooked meat. He must also be dewormed regularly.
