How to choose the right toys for your kitten
Toys are ideal for kittens as it is an important means of getting them to exercise, to showcase their hunting behaviour and to burn their excess energy. Once they are busily engaged in toys and games they are less likely to damage your house and do things you do not want them to. Toys are also an excellent way of bonding and strengthening your relationship with your feline friend.
A question does arise, what does a kitten like? Well, there is no one toy that kittens like. It is different with each cat, so to find the answer you need to experiment with various kinds of toys to zero in on what your pet likes. Also, once the essential toys are bought you need to keep rotating them so that your feline pal does not get bored playing with them.
Here are different types of toys you can consider getting your pet:
- Stuffed toys: These may include small stuffed toys shaped like mice, dolls or a fish. So they would become a prey for your kitten to stalk and pounce on them. Be sure to remove the ones that have loose pieces or ones that have materials that your pet can swallow.
- Wand toys: This toy needs adult supervision as the game includes chasing after a feather attached to a wand.
- Catnip toys: This is quite a treat for your kitten to chew on as it contains a herb that cats are usually fond of. Make sure your kitten is above 6 months to play with this particular toy.
- Balls: Balls are also a favourite among cats. So, give them ping pong balls or small size balls that are not so tiny for them to swallow.
- Food dispensing toys: This toy exercises their mind as well as their body. It also encourages them to exhibit their natural hunting behaviour as well as rewards them by dispensing their favourite treats.
You can also get creative and make your own toys for your kitten to play with. But what you need to keep in mind is that the materials you choose are not toxic and are not easy to swallow. You can also take your vet’s advice on the type of toys you can introduce to your pet.
