Mother cat’s care for her newborn kittens
The mother cat provides all the basic needs for the kitten during the first four weeks of life. The most important skills are learnt from the mother cat during this period like social skills and learning to excrete by themselves. For some reason, if the mother cat is not around or is unable to care for her kittens, you will need to prepare their food and feed them yourself and also provide them with other aspects of care.
The mother cat feels threatened if there is a presence of male cats and can change her place as male cats, like other feline species are known for killing kittens, even if they are his own. If you have a male cat at home, do not allow him to go near the kittens unless they grow a little older.
The kitten can be weaned off and be separated from the mother after four weeks of age. Still it is advisable to continue with the mother’s care for another 4 weeks.
