Preventive care for your kitten
Prevention is always better than cure. This must be kept in mind when you bring home a new kitty! To ensure your kitten enjoys the best of health it is imperative for you to take these steps of preventive care:
- Schedule an appointment with your vet: Once you bring your kitten home you need to schedule an appointment with the vet. The earlier you take your kitten to the vet the easier it is for them to socialise and get comfortable with the vet.
- Enquire about intestinal parasites, fleas and heartworm: You need to get your cat checked for fleas and intestinal parasites by the vet. You can also ask your vet if preventive treatment for heartworm and fleas is required for your kitten. It is a good idea to ask your vet to recommend a good brand for flea treatment that you can administer your kitten.
- Enquire about vaccinations: Preventive care for your kitten includes vaccinating them against diseases like feline leukemia, distemper and rabies. They require these vaccinations when they are 8 weeks old followed by booster doses till they are 16 weeks old. Ask your vet if your kitty requires any additional vaccinations.
These preventive steps will ensure that your kitty remains healthy and active. But you need to monitor her health as she gets older.
