Playtime for your elderly buddy
Your senior buddy will still enjoy the games he used to play when he was young but he would prefer a shorter and gentler play. Elderly cats usually suffer from various health problems so you need to modify the games according to their capability. Physical activity is very important for cats at this stage as it helps in toning of muscles and provides mental stimulation.
You can try less strenuous games like dangling a feather or a mirror from a string and keep moving it for him to catch and play. You can also indulge your feline pal with various toys and allow him to choose the ones he likes as each cat’s preference is different. Some cats like toys that move fast for them to chase. Other cats like toys that mimic the sound of birds or mouse. Brain teaser toys provide amusement as well as mental stimulation for your pet. Food dispenser toys in the form of a ball or box will provide them with the motivation to work for their favourite treats. Puzzles will also keep them entertained. To keep your feline buddy occupied you need to keep rotating the toys so that he does not lose interest.
To be on the safer side you can always take your vet’s advice about the kind of toys that will best suited to your cat. Also, make sure that you keep a check on small items that can be chewed or swallowed by your pet. Keep wires out of your cat’s reach and supervise his play so that he does not get entangled in toys with strings.
