How to engage your dog indoors
Exercising your dog regularly comes with added health benefits, for both man and dog. It provides physical and mental stimulation. Helps to tone muscles and keeps illness at bay. If you are not able to take your dog out to exercise because of unfavorable weather conditions, then here are a couple of ideas that will help your dog be fit and agile come rain, come shine.
- Running up and down the stairs: Running up and down the stairs is a good cardio exercise. It also encourages the use of different muscles than those used during regular walking. You can throw a toy from up and ask your canine buddy to fetch it.
- Let your dog work for his treats: Hide your pet’s favorite treats all around the house like under tables or beds, behind doors or in the garden and encourage your dog to find it. This become a physically tiring task. Food dispensing toys are also a great way to engage your pet and keeps him amused as he has to work his way around the toy to eat his treats.
- Fetch and throw game: Throwing a ball or a frisbee to your dog and making him to fetch it for you is a great way to keep your pet occupied and for him to be physically active.
- Playing hide and seek: Engaging in a game of hide and seek with your four legged friend is a great way to exercise his mind and body and tests his memory skills. When your dog finds you and other family members you have to encourage and reward him by giving him his favourite treats.
