Four ways to keep your pet cool this summer
The sun is up. The sweltering season begins and as you rush out to soak up the sun with your pet, you need to keep in mind that your pet needs extra care even during this season as they are prone to skin and ear infections. You also need to keep them hydrated and cool to enjoy the best of this season.
Here are quick tips to ensure your pet enjoys summertime as much as you do!
- Exercise with him early mornings or late in the evenings: Since it is summer, it is easy to break a sweat so you can cut down the intensity of the exercise and enjoy a refreshing brisk walk on the coolest part of the day. Also you can make your pet wear boots as it will prevent him from absorbing heat from surfaces like cement and asphalt therefore keeping his feet cool.
- Keep your pet hydrated: Dogs never break into sweat. They just pant and over drool. Also dogs with heavier coats absorb more heat than the ones with lighter coats. Even obese dogs are at a higher risk of dehyradation. So it is imperative to keep his bowl filled with water and ensure he drinks plentiful of water during this season.
- Keep him cool: The best activity that you can enjoy with your four legged buddy in summertime is swimming. So hit the pools or the beach and enjoy a cool swim with your loving hound. You can also try creative methods at home to keep your pet cool like making him lie on a wet towel or making him lie in front of a desert cooler. Also, you must encourage him to dig as it is a natural way for him to keep himself cool. So find a shady area for him to dig into and to rest.
- Never leave your pet in the car: If you have the habit of leaving your pet locked in a car as you go on a shopping spree, it could prove dangerous for your dog as the car would get heated and cause him dehydration. He may also become claustrophobic. So if you are going on a long ride with your dog ensure that you switch on your air conditioner and carry a big bottle of water.
Happy summer!
