How to soothe your dog’s stomach naturally?
Does your dog have an upset tummy? Is he vomiting and has diarrhea? Do not worry! It is nature’s way of eliminating toxins and infections from the body. An upset stomach is not really a cause of alarm unless accompanied with blood in the stools and vomit. If it is severe it needs immediate medical attention but if it is mild you can treat your pet naturally through these steps:
- Fasting: Most dogs do this themselves. If they do not, you need to make sure they fast by not providing food or water for at least 6 to 12 hours. If your dog appears weak you can give them a few drizzly licks of honey. If you feel they have stopped vomiting and diarrhea after a couple of hours you can give them a few sips of water and give them mostly liquids and semi solids like broth. You can slowly increase the amount of food during the next few days.
- Bland food: You need to go easy on your pet’s stomach as they are now slowly recovering. Ensure they drink adequate amount of water and provide them with a bland diet foods like rice, broth, low fat meat, yoghurt or low fat cottage cheese. Probiotics like bacteria and cottage cheese introduce healthy bacteria into the system and improve the immune system and strengthen the digestive tract.
If your dog’s health does not improve then you need to take them to the vet for further medical examination and intervention.
Happy parenting!
