How to travel on air with your pet
Are you thinking of going on a vacation with your pet? Well, the quickest and safest form of transport is airways. However, there are very few domestic flights that allow you to fly with your pets. You just cannot turn up at the airport on the day of your departure as there are important formalities to be done prior to flying to ensure your pet has a safe journey. So, here are a list of things for you to do before boarding your pet on the flight:
- You need to inform the cargo manager few days in advance so that they have enough cargo space with sufficient oxygen to ensure your pet does not suffocate. When you board the flight you must inform the captain and the flight attendant that you are flying with your pet on board.
- Your pet needs to be vaccinated prior to flying and you must carry the vaccination report. Also carry a certificate by your vet certifying your pet is fit to fly.
- Your pet must be placed in a IATA approved cage during their course of travel.
- It is advisable to provide water to your pet two hours before flying.
- Before you board the flight ensure your pet has been safely loaded and claim your pet as soon as you reach your destination.
- Snub-nosed dog breeds and cross breeds such as pugs, bulldogs and boxers are not allowed to travel by air due to breathing difficulties and increased risk of heat stroke. Cat breeds such as burmese, himalayan, persian and cross breeds are not allowed.
