Toys for your senior dog
Most senior dogs still enjoy playing with toys that they used to play with when they were younger. Physical activity is essential for dogs once they are past 8 years as it helps in keeping their mind and body active, happy and healthy.
At this stage you would know the kind of toys your dog prefers and his normal play routines. You could also take a chance and introduce him to new toys, he may grow a liking for it once he starts playing with it. Here are a couple of things to consider while buying new toys for your canine buddy:
- Pick toys that are sturdy and last longer with rough handling.
- Since the toy would be most often found in your dog’s mouth you need to pick toys that are non toxic and ones that are made of natural materials instead f harmful chemicals.
- Go for toys that are washable as no one likes to handle dirty toys!
You could consider getting the following toys for your senior pet:
- Chew toys: If your dog still loves chew toys then you can get him chew toys shaped like a bone or teething toys.
- Chase toys: This is the eternal favourite for most dogs. Playing with balls and frisbees is a good form of exercise and helps your pet remain fit.
- Treat dispenser toys and food puzzles: This form of toy keeps your pet occupied for a long time since they need to work out ways to dispense the treats. It is a good form of mind exercise.
- Tug toys: Your senior pal would still enjoy a game of tug. Rope toys are best for a good game to tug.
Whatever may be the choice of toys you make for your pet you need to make sure that you are with them at this stage of their life and ensure they stay healthy and active physically and mentally.
Happy parenting!
