Here comes a stern warning to terrible pet sitters
How do you deal with a cruel pet sitter that leaves your pet unattended or unfed, in the worst case. With a prison term, of course. A 20-year-old girl from Tempe (Maricopa County of Arizona) has been sentenced a month behind bars for being a terrible dog sitter that let two dogs starve to death through sheer negligence.
According to the Maricopa County prosecutors, a family from Gilbert (Arizona) had hired the services of Tiffany Fajardo in October 2016 to care for six pets for a week while they had to go outstation. Apparently, the pet parents went to the extent of leaving some written elaborate instructions on how to attend to each dog.
In a cruel twist to the tale, Fajardo rang up the family on the last day of her assignment and informed them about the ‘mysterious’ demise of two dogs. She even went on to feign ignorance over the incident and promised that she followed their instructions to the T, the prosecutors were quoted saying.
The family returned from the trip to find out much to their dismay that none of the food had been served to the dogs. The remaining dogs needed immediate medical attention for malnutrition.
Police arrested Fajardo at her home this February. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years of probation for cruelty to animals. “This sentencing acknowledges the need to provide justice to the victims and holds the defendant accountable for causing needless loss,” said Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery.
How nice it would be if India – which sees a lot of animal cruelty cases – had such provision for the perpetrators to be sentenced to a jail term! Yawwwwn!
