IT couple with dogs: Get the balancing act right
Are you a couple working for an IT company and struggling to spare adequate time for your lonesome dog back home?
Fret not! You are just one pair among thousands of software-employed pet parents in a hi-tech city like Bangalore. As is the case with most IT couple, either your parents or next of kin might not be around to pamper your pet round the clock. Nor is it guaranteed that your workplace is empathetic, forget welcoming, towards your pet care needs.
Dogs are social creatures with a pack mentality that sulk when left alone to fend for themselves all through a day. Just like your homesickness. They can also grow restless, leading to erratic behaviour and trauma.
When you get back home on work days, make sure that you pay lots of attention to, play with and cuddle your dog to make up for the lost time. It’s important that your pet never feels ignored.
Consider a new routine from this weekend: take your dog out for a walk on a breezy Saturday evening or a warm Sunday morning. Your spouse and you can, perhaps, take up this chore on alternate weekends to not squeeze in more time amid each of your domestic schedule.
Also, look at roping in pet walkers, boarders or pet care centres, apart from leaning on your friends, and neighbours – strictly at your own risk! Balancing work and pet care could be a cakewalk with these simple steps.
